Kody Brown once said, “Love should not be divided, it should be multiplied.”
And over the decades, he has had polygamous marriages with wives Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, Christine Brown and Robyn Brown, whose journeys are chronicled in the series Sister Wives.
In the first episode in 2010, the 18-year-old’s father said, “I just fell in love.” “And then I fell in love again, and I fell in love again.”
But since then, he has grown fond of polygamy. Christine and Kody announced their split in November 2021, and he and Janelle confirmed their separation in December 2022. A month later, Meri revealed her decision to “end” their marriage “for good.” As a result, Robin becomes Kody’s only wife.
“I’m not a proponent of plural marriage, but I’ve been in plural marriage myself, and I’ve made mistakes,” he told People magazine in December 2023.
Cody said that while it may work for some people, “some marriages have people who know each other very, very well and it still doesn’t work.”
Some of Kody’s ex-girlfriends have since embraced monogamy. Christine married David Woolley in 2023 and said on the show that she never wanted to be polygamous again. Some, like Janelle, said they would “consider plural marriage again.”
As for his wife Robin, he said in a 2024 episode that he would enter into a plural marriage again if it guaranteed him a “positive experience of success.”
