Verizon has signed a deal with AST SpaceMobile to provide cell phone service from space. AST stock soars

AST Space Mobile announced on Wednesday a contract with verizon It plans to provide mobile phone service from space starting next year.

According to AST, the deal is aimed at giving cell phone users on Verizon plans a direct connection to services through space “when they need it.” This marks an expansion of the partnership between the two companies announced last year.

AST stock rose more than 8% on Wednesday. The volatile space stock had soared more than 250% in 2025 before this deal was announced.

Verizon stock fell.

“Through our definitive commercial agreement with Verizon, we are committed to providing space-based cellular broadband coverage across the continental United States from space,” Abel Abellan, founder and CEO of AST, said in a press release.

Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Abellan said the deal expands Verizon’s 850MHz premium low-band spectrum into areas within the United States, with the potential for expanded coverage with AST’s space-based broadband offering.

AST said the deal comes after the company’s space network proved its capabilities through recent tests. The company touts itself as building the “first and only” global cellular network to operate directly in space via standard devices that can be used in both commercial and government environments.
