If the whole world is a stage, they are its biggest players.
The 2026 Academy Awards nominations were announced on January 22 by actors Daniel Brooks and Lewis Pullman, along with the actors and films deemed to have provided the best performances and films throughout 2025. (See all nominations here).
Heading into nominations day, the films Hamnet, One Battle After Another, The Sinners, Marty Supreme, and The Secret Agent were all expected to be among the top nominees, especially after their successful screenings at the Critics’ Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards.
And indeed, all of the above films were nominated for Best Picture (Brazil’s The Secret Agent was also nominated for Best International Feature), as were the films Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams..
Stars such as Michael B. Jordan, Timothée Chalamet, Jesse Buckley, Leonardo DiCaprio, Wagner Moura, Elle Fanning, Wunmi Mosaku, and Jacob Elordi are considered to be potential actors, and each has been nominated for either Best Supporting Actor or Best Actor.
